A year to the day after his daughter’s death, Dax is faced with two cases involving some very unique elements. His good friend and Special Victims Unit detective, Janet Meehan, asks his help to determine the identity of a serial killer who has been murdering Catholic nuns in one of the poorest areas of the Bronx but only nuns who still dress in the old style veiled habits.

At the same time, his tyrannical boss, the Police Commissioner, Jeremiah Gallagher, orders Dax to drop everything to determine why the P.C.’s daughter, a rookie cop, is suddenly suffering from episodes of near catatonia. The medical experts have determined there are no physical reasons, and the psychiatric community is baffled. The revelations, both discovered and deduced by Dax, considered by many as the Sherlock Holmes of the NYPD, never stop coming.
