DO YOU KNOW ME BY JOSEPHINE OSEI BONSU

Do you really know me? What made you think so?

Is it because you know my name?
Is it because you know where I work?
Is it because you know where I live?
Is it because you see me pass-by everyday?
Then you are mistaken, you don’t know me at all.

Do you know what makes me happy?
Do you know what make me cry?
Do you know what makes me angry?
Do you know my favorite color?
Do you know my favorite food?
Do you know the kind of movies I like?
Do you know the genre of music that I listen to?
Do you know the things I believe and those that I don’t?
Do you know what my addictions are?

I might laugh when I get upset and cry when I’m happy. When a joke is too funny, I can’t even laugh. This is just a little piece of me.

When you heard or read that story about me,you jumped into conclusion that you know me but you don’t. And you might never know me. You judged me from afar when you have no right to do so.

Being the hypocrite you are, you will never know anyone at all.

  4. This is a beautiful piece. We’re often judged by perception built around prejudices and conflicts. This often do violence to our person and image of ourselves…….unreasonably some of us are both victims and suspects! thanks for d wonderful piece!

  5. Why are you all so scared of being judged – wrongly or not – or known by others? Why do you care in first instance? Live you life, don’t give a damn; follow your way, do your good and be happy… The real hypocrites end up being you… not being yourself but only being concerned of what other ‘should’ know about you. You yourself most likely do not even know yourselves. And tomorrow you will not even be the same as today. Everything changes. Cheers. 😉

  6. Guy and girl go to a salsa night. They dance together. Most people believe these two are a couple, romantic lovers. And they judge them on the basis of this erroneous perception. They think they know. Those of us who know them very well, they are siblings. That’s right. Brother and sister who love to dance.

  7. This poem reminds me of something which occurred recently. I went to the memorial service of someone I had known for at least 20 years. When they shared memories and stories, I realized I had hardly known him at all. It made me sad that I had not bothered to interact and learn more about a truly unusual, gifted, and fascinating man. I keep wondering who else out there I am “missing”.

Glad you decided to follow my blog.

  9. When the Creator, the Operator of all, removes the obscurity from our heart, we’re able to see what he’s doing, and where he’s going with it. We’re able to see, know, and understand that all that comes to us, whether it’s pleasant or unpleasant, is the very best, for the very best, for him to be all in all. Inaccurate Bible translations and unenlightened Bible teachers are part of the obscurity. Thank you josbons for making me welcome here. I still haven’t found a book I can read, but I’m still looking. I know this about you: You are one of Papa’s precious, precious girls.

  10. Ecclesiastes 3:10,11
I see the experience Elohim gives to the sons of humanity, to humble them in it. He has made everything fitting in its season. However, he has put obscurity in their heart, so that the human may not find out the work which Elohim does from the beginning to the terminus.

  11. Thanks for following my blog. You made my day.

The amazing thing about knowing people is that once you do, once you open yourself to understanding them, judging and beating them down becomes impossible. So simply by saying ‘I know you’ as an accusation, the speaker confirms the very opposite.

  12. Thank you for visiting my post 🙂

In turn, I read yours.. which I think has striking similarities 🙂 “I know you” is a phrase we’ve all heard used before, yet I must personally admit that I’m likely to respond with scepticism when someone says those words.

Often the words “I know you” come from our family, or people who have been around us for a long time. My experience shows that when I desire change, or begin to break new ground, try something new in life… this is often when we hear others oppose us and say this powerful phrase.

Yet, these words can be both empowering (e.g. “I know you and recognize that you are going to be great”) or belittling (e.g. “I know you, and there’s no possible way you will ever succeed”). I think there are too many negative voices, including my own, that continue to say the words “I know you” in a harmful way. My challenge is to surround myself with voices that say the former, and have grace to deal with those who say the latter. But it does not stop there, I must begin to cultivate the positive life-giving environment I want by encouraging others with the empowering words “I know you” as well 🙂

  13. I’m like Carl, sometimes I don’t know me. People really don’t want to make the investment required to get to know someone on a deep, personal level. It’s easier just to jump to conclusions and make the rest up as you go.

  14. This is good. I know I have been guilty of jumping to conclusions about people when (a) I knew nothing about them and (b) it was none of my business anyway.

It hurts when people take a bit of information and twist it to make someone seem like a horrible person. It’s almost like theft, in a way, isn’t it? It’s almost as if you’re stealing a person’s good name, or their reputation.

Thanks for this thought-provoking post. I’m going to remember this the next time I start jumping to conclusions…
