THE FRIEND I MET IN JAIL BY JOSEPHINE OSEI BONSU

What I Used To Think Of Jail Until I Met A New Friend

A picture from a jail cell

THE CRIME I COMMITTED

My crime was that, I stood in as a guarantor for a friend to secure a bank loan and she ended up not paying all the amount that required of her. And I had no idea that this was going on until the bank called notifying me to come over. I went there the next day thinking I could have some agreement with them to pay whiles I look for my friend.

As I entered the bank managers office, I got introduced to two detectives who will be taking me into custody unless I pay up the remaining balance that day or I tell them where they can find my friend and arrest her instead. I couldn’t believe this was happening until I was behind bars. This was where I met a new friend Achaa.

THE INMATE

There was a woman who had been there for two days over domestic issues and her name was Achaa. She was stronger than I was because it was my first time to sleep alone without my child beside me. It was very difficult as a mother. She did her best to cheer me up throughout the night but I couldn’t sleep. She told me she would be released the next day and that made me more sad because I was going be left alone in the police cells and I know that’s not a place anyone even for a minute, but I wished within me that she would be spending some few days more with me.

TWO WEEKS IN JAIL

I spent two weeks in jail and sworn not to befriend anyone nor do good to anyone for that matter. Because I ended up in jail by helping out a friend. The cold nights, loneliness and the fact that it was Christmas holidays and I wasn’t at home celebrating with my family especially not being able to celebrate with my child, that really broke my heart.

ACHAA THE NEW FRIEND

Achaa changed my decision on friendship again when she visited me and brought along food, clothes, pillow and blankets since I had to sleep on the bare cold floor because there was nothing to sleep on. She ended up helping me to pay part of the amount and she was there when I released. Then I remembered something my grandma used to tell us, ” everything happen for a reason “. I never thought that being betrayed by someone who was a dear friend could help me find another wonderful and kind-hearted person who has now become like sister to me till date.

THE LESSON

Spending time in jail has thought me not to judge quickly and not everyone who ends up in jail is guilty or a bad person. Rather, the innocent are victims of circumstances like myself and you are likely to meet some of the lifelong friends at the unusual places.

SUCCEED WITH SMILE AND SILENCE

LIFE LESSONS AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT BY BISHOP DR. AKWASI KWARTENG

A giant tree with the sunlight shinning through its branches in California, USA

Life is a game that has no return match.
Life is not a sprint but marathon.
Life is full of choices so make a choice that impact life positively.

A humble person is the one who remains the same under all circumstances.

The world suffers a lot not because of violence of bad people but silence of good people.

Any tree that beautifies overnight dies early but the one that takes time to beautify lasts.

Man’s greatest enemy is judgment of men.

Don’t allow anyone to walk through your mind with their filthy feet.

Tension is who you think you should but relaxation is who you are.

The beautiful road of I don’t care will lead you to the ugly city of had I known.

You embrace the servant called failure when you refuse to hug the king called truth.

The most unhappy person in life is the one whose mind is filled up with the thoughts and what others think of them.

Is better be slow and sure than to rush and crush.

When you find yourself on the side of the most, you get to pause and show.

A secret told is like a seed sowed, it grows and bears fruits to the ears of many.

How We Stop Human Trafficking For Good?

Human trafficking has been a very serious social issue that has been very difficult to deal with till date. I and some friends have helped some few children from being sold. The children were already being abused in a dehumanizing way that I still can’t comprehend.

These children were used as bait in catching fishes at sea. How can people be so wicked? It’s sad that because of money, some people are willing to do the unthinkable such as selling a fellow human being.

Sometimes i wonder what these people are being made of. Whether they have a heart or the blood that runs through their veins are different from the rest of us. And to make it worse, the people who buys them also use them however they want as if they’re slaves.

I hope a day will come where human trafficking will cease to exist for good and all those involve will pay dearly for it.

What Are Your Thoughts On Genetic Modified Foods ( GMO ) ?

If it was left with I alone, anything that has to do with GMO will be banned like food crops, animals and any kind of production of sort. Why can’t we allow nature to take it course? We as a world are dealing with so many diseases that sometimes we don’t know where they came from. Now that Russia has banned all export and halted production, I hope my country Ghana does the same.

What is wrong with us at all?

RENEWING OUR STRENGTH IN GOD

Isaiah 40:31 – but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

When we remain hopeful, despite our waiting, God rewards us with renewed strength. Perhaps we witness His transforming love in another area of our lives, and it renews our hope for another. We can fly above the impatience and keep moving ahead of our worry, as long as we continue to wait in hopeful expectation for God to work.

Have a blessed sunday.
